What the eye doesn`t see, the heart doesn`t grieve over
Today is World Mental Health Day, a date to raise awareness of mental health issues and advocate against the stigma. While I was wondering about this day and all its efforts to bring awareness, a proverb came to my mind. “What the eye doesn`t see, the heart doesn`t grieve over”.
Different from other visible issues, mental health hides its suffering within our lives. It can be a dysfunctional thinking pattern, masked by fears, an overthinking habit, or something else that we don’t even realize. So, how to bring awareness about something that we don’t see or are not aware of?
First of all, we have to understand something pretty simple, mental health should be on everyone’s agenda. Because everyone can identify themselves in some way with this subject.
There is a Brazilian song that reminds me of how mad we all are. Part of the lyric says: ”I swear it’s better not to be normal!” What is normal? When we stop normalizing our feelings and recognize them as part of us, embracing them and letting them come without judgment, we start being human beings.
On this day, it is also Thanksgiving Day, I wish we all can stop looking for the illness and start looking at the person. I wish all of us are thankful for our lives, our well-being, and also some “crazy” thoughts.
Sim sou muito louco, não vou me curar (Yes I am too crazy, I won’t heal)
Já não sou o único que encontrou paz (I’m not the only one anymore who found the peace)
Mais louco é quem me diz E não é feliz, eu sou feliz” (More crazy is who tells me and is not happy, I’m happy!)
And like Seal also reminds us, “we are gonna survive unless we get a little crazy” and “miracles will happen as we speak”! (Crazy – Seal)
I wish that each one reading my words understand that there is no normal, the normal is you with all your flaws!

Infelizmente, é comum ver na clínica as pessoas normalizando e normatizando sentimentos e afetos, trazendo ainda mais sofrimento psíquico, já basta a sociedade tentando nos encaixar, julgar.
