We are not alone anymore
Every week I attend an ESL Bible Study (English as a Second Language) – a group of volunteers who offer their time and knowledge to help immigrants who want to develop English language skills. By the way, it is one of my favorite ways to study English.
Today, after reading Mark 6.30-44, a verse about the story when Jesus feeds five thousand men and he asked his disciples to go to a place where they can be alone and get some rest, we started to answer some questions, as an exercise to develop interpretation and speaking skills. One of the questions was: Where do you go to be alone or to get some rest? It was easy to answer where I used to go to get some rest, but being alone made me think about it.
One year working from home also means for some people not being alone at home anymore. Redesigning the house, lunch time changes or overtime work are some Covid’s adaptations at home.
I used to be alone some hours per day, organizing my activities and commitments. It doesn’t mean that not being alone anymore is a problem, actually it is great! But how am I going to handle my needs? I am a kind of person who has been living alone for some years and I feel good with myself – and I truly believe that being well with ourselves is the key to a good life.
Some strategies have to be done to act with intentionality to connect with yourself. It could be walking, having a coffee at Starbucks, even though it takes just a few minutes. Tasting new flavours, wearing new colours, or looking for something that you do for leisure are some strategies! Be alone with your own thoughts. Be connected.
I go for a walk with my dog, wear my headphones and write some thoughts or make some crafts for Easter.
What do you do to be alone? What will you have a go at?

É uma das coisas mais dificeis de eu conseguir. E eu sinto muita falta de partilhar só dá minha própria companhia.
