JOMO
Have you felt overwhelmed during the last 4 months? I bet everyone has felt it at least once in the last couple months.
I have signed up to different online workshops, live streams, attended different online meetings, checked frequently on social media, chatted on instant messaging apps, and guess what? I am tired of the internet.
First of all, I truly love the internet and keeping in touch with my family and friends, who support me while I am living abroad. It is also a great source of information and the tool that I use to share my ideas with you! But it is impressive how the internet could also be stressful when we are too exposed to it.
Anyway, it reminds me of an expression that I have learned recently: JOMO
JOMO is an acronym for “joy of missing out”. It is a moment where you enjoy being with yourself, without worrying about what is going on in the internet, if you are missing something exciting on social media or on WhatsApp messages. I guess being disconnected is a kind of self-care.
Everyone has different JOMOs. My JOMOs are baking sourdough bread, crocheting and binging TV series! All these activities make me feel in flow! For sure, I am still following friends on Instagram or signing up for some live streams and programs that I am interested in, especially if it is about English, religion, Psychology and health. But the difference is that I am constantly asking myself what really matters for me.
What are your JOMOs?

My JOMO’s are cooking, watching TV show and dancing.
Thanks for the reflection. I learned “joy of missing out”

Meus jomos são ouvir música e dançar sozinha, assistir minhas séries e andar, andar muito. E estou muito feliz em me desconectar sempre da internet.
