One year working from home

For many people, March represents one year of working from home. Companies from all over the world had to adapt their structures and processes to contain the pandemic spread.

Since then, meetings also changed. Some included pets as attendees, some were disrupted by fire alarms or some “rooms” started to be tight with too many people joining together. Some gains such as having an opportunity to meet someone who lives overseas and attending meetings previously exclusive to the HeadQuarters are now available for employees from the branch. Not to mention the possibilities of training and development far from just an “enter key” in your computer.

It doesn’t mean that online tools didn’t exist before Covid or people didn’t have access. Actually, it means that nowadays everybody is in the same condition, everyone is working from home, they are on the same page.

Who would have thought that it would bring people together?

Unfortunately the ease of being able to be anywhere and anytime brought us an obligation to be always available, losing some precious working time to create and develop our activities. Meetings after meetings, now they are being booked without a break, because we don’t need to move, right? What was an excuse for not attending every meeting, now it is a duty. Recently I have heard about a good practice from HR. They implemented a “day off of meetings”, for example “Focused Friday”. How wonderful is this!

This article is the first of a series talking about one year of working from home. See you in the next article 😉

The part about being always available is so true! It gets compunded by the cell phone being always handy with access to messages and emails instantly, no need to sit down and start the computer!
Looking forward to your next posts on this topic!

I totally agree that while people are not working in the same physical office anymore, it ended up bringing people closer to eachother as different branches and offices are now all on the same page. This was a very unexpected but good outcome! Very well observed!

Interesting thoughts. I need a day like that for not doing house work. I really do need a Noss to control that for me.
Brought up in a home where we All had had chores to do I feel I need to do something worthwhile each day. That is why ,I believe , I still have that need to work LOTS.
Do you think working from home is 100% good for people. ?
We sure will never forget these days.
